The chairperson of the Human Rights Commission Sierra Leone has today presented the Commission’s third Annual Report 2009 to President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma at State House. The Chairperson, Edward Sam said the Commission is please to note that the human rights situation in Sierra Leone in 2009 was generally satisfactory and commended the government for its observance and respect for many of the fundamental rights and freedom set out in our 1991 constitution and in international agreements that the country has signed and ratified. |

President Koroma Launches SCP |

His Excellency the President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma has last Saturday launched the Smallholders Commercialization Programme (SCP) in Kenema, east of Sierra Leone, a nationwide initiative aimed at increasing the productivity of Sierra Leone’s agricultural sector. The US$ 403 million agricultural sector growth project is one of President Koroma’s top priorities on the “Agenda for Change” that is geared towards achieving food security and self-sufficiency in the country. With a life span of five years running from 2011 to 2014, the SCP will strengthen the economy and get over two and half million people out of poverty. |

GOVERNMENT SECURES MULTI-MILLION-DOLLAR FUNDING FOR AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTIVITY |
 Pres. Koroma Inspects a farm in Tekoh His Excellency the President, Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma, is pleased to announce that the Global Agriculture and Food Security Programme (GAFSP) has approved a request from the Government of Sierra Leone for fifty million dollars (US$50 million) in support of the Government’s Smallholder Commercialisation Programme. Sierra Leone is one of the first five countries to benefit from the Global Agriculture and Food Security Programme funding. |
