Courtesies In my inaugural address to Parliament on 5th October 2007, I pledged my Government’s commitment to provide reliable, sustainable and affordable electricity to the nation in general and to Freetown, the nation’s capital, in particular. This commitment is based on my personal conviction that as a nation, we can not turn the economy around and improve the standard of living of our people without an adequate energy infrastructure. Without energy we cannot attract quality investors; without energy we cannot turn around the private sector; without energy, we cannot improve the employment situation. It is for these reasons that my government puts premium on energy in our Agenda for Change. |

President Koroma Visits Cottage, Connaught for April 27 Health-Care-Delivery Plan |

Senior medical doctors, lab technicians, pharmacists, midwives and nurses of Princess Christianne Maternity Hospital (PCMH - commonly known as Cottage) and Connaught Hospital today gave assurances to President Koroma that they are ready for the implementation of the government’s April 27 commencement of free health care delivery for pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children under five years. In snap visits to the two government hospitals, one in the east another in central Freetown, the President entered various wards, inspecting facilities, parleying with patients, and interviewing medical personnel. |

The International Women’s Day is a day for reflecting on the challenges faced by women, and for celebrating the achievements of our mothers, our partners, our sisters, our daughters and our female compatriots. More importantly, this is a day for rededicating ourselves to the truth that a nation can only transform itself when it also lives up to the aspirations of women. From Madam Yoko to Nancy Steele and the current Chief Justice, the women of this country have aspired to equal rights, justice, education, health, food security and an opportunity to thrive as business women, farmers, politicians, and lawyers. |
