President Ernest Bai Koroma has reiterated his commitment to the improvement of Sierra Leone’s educational system, noting that the first major step towards such a goal would be a review of the current system. The President was speaking while receiving in audience officials of the high-level intercontinental labour organization, Education International, and the International Secretary of the Danish Union of Teachers, accompanied by members of the Sierra Leone Labour Congress, who paid him a courtesy call at State House today. |

PRESIDENT KOROMA MEETS AND WELCOMES PEACE CORPS VOLUNTEERS |

At State House today, President Ernest Bai Koroma welcomed 39 Americans who are in Sierra Leone as the first batch of Peace Corps volunteers after a break of about 15 years caused by the 11-year civil war. “This is a great moment for us, showing a significant improvement on the ties that have existed between Sierra Leone and America, ties that started before colonialism, before independence, through independence unto the post-independence era only severed by the war,” the President said. |

I STILL VERY MUCH ENJOY THE CONFIDENCE OF THE PRESIDENT |
 SHEKA TARAWALIE Speculations have been rife and now have been published by the Global Tines newspaper of today Wednesday 2nd June 2010 about my position as Presidential Press Secretary. In the newspaper’s front-page lead story (which turned out to be an inside-page short comment), titled ‘Shekito Sacked?’, it is implied that I have either been relieved of my responsibilities or sidelined. I would recall that a few days before the publication, journalists of Global Times were asking me questions in that direction, and I had categorically stated that I had no problems with the President and that there was no need to make it news. Notwithstanding, I respect the viewpoint that the public would like to know what is happening. |
