| British Envoy Extols President Koroma’s Anti-Corruption Strides |
![]() H.E. Pres. Dr. Koroma Mr. Ian Hughes made the commendation during a courtesy call on President Koroma at State House to present the visiting head of the UK’ s Crown Prosecution Service and the Revenue and Customs Prosecution Office, Mr. Keir Starmer. The British envoy used the opportunity to thank the President for firmly targeting corruption, for which Sierra Leone is now being touted as a leading champion. “I have watched very carefully and have noticed that the Anti-Corruption Commission is working very effectively and independently,” observed Mr. Hughes. He further informed President Koroma that he has also visited and held high-level round-table discussions with the Department of Public Prosecution and the Minister of Justice and Attorney General, Abdul Serry Kamal, as they are working on a code for prosecutors. Responding, President Koroma thanked the British government for supporting the government of Sierra Leone in its reformation strides, saying that government has a whole programme of reviewing the entire justice sector. President Koroma told the British envoy that the Department of Public Prosecution’s office has a very limited capacity, “therefore, we need to train more people and get them motivated as a means of restructuring the judiciary.” He appreciated the intervention of the British High Commissioner and his team in engaging key functionaries in the judicial sector. This, he maintained, will take the sector to a higher level, adding that “We are also trying to have a commercial court and a court for the Anti-Corruption Commission.” The President welcomed the visiting head of the Crown prosecution Service, Mr. Keir Starmer, and assured him of government’s cooperation in boosting the judicial sector.
