Top Notch Indian Medics arrive in Freetown for two-day working visit

appolo hospitalFREETOWN, Sierra Leone, September 14, 2017/ -- A team of medical doctors from India visited President Dr Ernest Bai Koroma today at State House to inform him of plans to render free medical services to both patients and health service providers in the country.

The five-man delegation is made up of mainly physicians, surgeons and other medical staff of the Apollo Hospital in New Delhi, India.  

Among other things, the two-day activities of the medical team include free consultation services to patients suffering from various diseases at Connaught Hospital; a medical conference at Miatta Conference Center to give medical education on latest and advanced technology for treatment of various diseases.

In his welcome remarks, President Koroma expressed satisfaction over the visit which, he said, would further enhance better collaboration in the health systems of the two countries. He commended the good treatment given to patients from Sierra Leone, pointing out that the country’s medical sector still has some challenges and therefore looking forward for stronger collaboration to maintain professional standards. “I am hopeful that this visit will provide our medical service providers the opportunity to gain more experience,” he said, adding that Sierra Leone and India have enjoyed long standing bilateral ties and that he shall always be ready to provide personal support to the establishment of Apollo Hospital in Sierra Leone.

In his brief comment, Vice President of Apollo Hospital Dr Harinder Singh Sidhu expressed on behalf of the delegation condolences for the departed souls of the August 14 landslides and floods.

Other members of the delegation are Dr Vineet Arora, Manager, Dr Havind Tandon, Senior Consultant Orthopedician, Dr Feroz Pasha, Surgical Oncologist and Dr Anshuman Agarwal, Specialist Hulmium Laser Treatment.
